so i need some ideas on a 6 inch gap we have between the stamped concrete pool deck and our homes existing concrete patio not stamped and a slightly different color . my husband opted for the gap because he didn't like 2 different looking concretes butted up against each other.
behind the first stone, or coping stones of brick, block or stone, leave 1/2' gap to serve as an expansion joint between the pool coping stones and the pool deck. fill the gap with a foam expansion joint material if you are installing a block or paver pool deck.
over time, the pressure from the pool deck will break the top of the pool wall, resulting in a fairly major repair to whats called beam damage. when i say proper expansion joint, i refer to a gap between the pool wall and pool deck that goes clear to the earth beneath the pool deck.
hi,istalled ew 15x30 agp last year and built wood deck that had 1/2 space between top rail and deck. over the winter the wood shrunk and now the gap is 1 inch.does anybody know who makes spacers that i could lay down to cover space. thankyou
though, when it comes to replacing the pools liner, some decks pose a problem. so, with this post im going to give some guidelines on how to build a deck next to an above ground pool so that you will still be able to change the liner when the time comes. i can change your pool liner, but first i have to cut your deck oh no, not in the deck
second, using this data record of the pool size, determine the size of the deck you want to build. remember, the deck shouldnt be attached to the perimeter of the pool. make a gap around 1-2 inch between the edge of the pool and the deck.
deck-o-foam expansion joint filler is a flexible, lightweight, non-staining, polyethylene, closed-cell expansion joint filler. it is a chemical-resistant, ultraviolet stable, non-absorbent, low density, economical, compressible foam that offers an extended service life in both interior and exterior applications.
home \ problems due to concrete decks. without the installation and proper maintenance of a flexible mastic joint between the swimming pool decking and the pool coping, movement caused by expansion and contraction of the pool deck will frequently cause dislodged coping, tile and horizontal cracking in the water line tile.
i was building the deck around my 27' agp salt water pool and i set the deck height to come to about the middle of the top plate and leaving about a 1/2' to 3/4' gap between the deck and the top plate. a friend of mine came over and kinda questioned if 1/2' gap was enough for when the pool freezes this winter.

the maximum gap between the decking and the pool coping is generally 3/4 inch. slip resistance, gaps between boards and slope of the deck may also be regulated depending on the local codes. these design requirements should also be considered for any deck adjacent swimming pools or hot tubs, whether in or above ground.
for this reason, a smart design involves a pool coping which is isolated from the remainder of the pool deck via a small gap between the deck and the coping. this joint is then filled with a flexible sealant to marry the two edges together and to create a water proof resistant joint between the deck and the coping.
how to caulk your pool's expansion joint. most vinyl liner pools or fiberglass pools usually do not have an expansion joint, is a gap between the pool wall and pool deck that goes clear to the earth beneath the pool deck. without caulking in the gap, the gap or space soon fills with sand, pebbles, seeds, dirt, etc.
i recently had to replace an above ground pool with another one due to wear and tear on the first one. as you know, you build the deck around the pool, but since the new pool is taller and the installer needed room to move between the deck and the new pool, i now have two issues.
i moved into a house where the pool deck was cracked and sinking about and inch now since i moved in. i just discovered that the pool drains on either side of the deck were clogged and the water was running back under the deck and then out, leaving several inches of air space between the deck and the soil.
what is the best product to use for the gap between the pool wall/coping and the deck pavers . most have said a foam prodcut with 1/2 inch deep dec-o seal on top. caulk between coping and deck. post by bobbie thu 01 dec, 2011 09:57 . liner and above ground pools swimming pool leaks pool surface discussions
the pool ia also a 30 foot diameter pool but i have a 'j-hook' liner. i currently have about 5 inches of water in the pool. the liner is bowing tightly inward like a sail creating a 1-2 inch gap between the liner and the pool wall. i can reach in the pool and push the liner back towards the wall but it feels like i am pushing on a balloon.
the cover could easily fit in between the 1 inch gap. when the liner did need replaced, it wouldn't be to invasive to drill a 1/4' hole for the screwdriver to undo the top plate screws. then the top plate worked out the 1 inch gap. my primary concern is the deck boards at the edge pulling up or dropping lower.
